ON:

Sansa was settling into her quarters on the Santa Maria. They were nice and comfortable but she was missing Belle. She had thought it better to leave the pup on the Merlin and Melody had agreed to look after her while she was away.

Something had been playing on her mind ever since she had overhead Hamish talking just before he fell into the whale habitat the first time. She was also wanting some company that evening so she decided to go and see him and ask him about it. she grabbed a bottle from her travel bag and headed for the door.

She left her cabin and walked the short distance to his, quarters which was next door and pressed the chime.

Hamish heard the chime to his quarters, and walked to the door to see whom it was, when it opened his mouth dropped open. "Uh hello, Sansa, care to come inside?" Stepping back to let her in. He actually was feeling a bit nervous, hoping that he'd not done anything to irritate her.

"I thought you might like some company and a nightcap." Shew said as she produced the bottle she had been carrying "I brought a couple of bottles of Aldebaran whisky with me for the trip." She entered and got two glasses off the table and poured them both a drink.

Hamish was confused and watched as Sansa poured out two drinks. "I can go for a drink, or two." He said after a few moments of silence. "What would you like to talk about?" going over to pick up a drink and turned to look at Sansa.

She sat down on the sofa. "You remember when Doctor Blessed first showed us the whale habitat and you fell in?"

Walking over to the sofa, Hamish sat on the other end of the sofa. "Yes, I remember that rather well. I got a bit wet there. Served me right to miscalculate the distance." he wasn't certain where this discussion was heading but, he decided he had better take a drink from his glass, for preparation.

She bit her lip nervously then took a quick drink before continuing. "Well, just before, you were singing the most beautiful song and I was curious where you learnt it. I've heard Mathias sing it before too but I've had no luck finding it in the Federation cultural database. What's it called?"

"I don't have a name for it yet, as it's an original." he said quietly, "I created the song. And I taught Mathias it as he asked me to. Oh you ought to hear it played on his panpipes, so... magical and mystical as it echoes through the air." Hamish's eyes lit up at the memory "We've not had the chance for him to accompany me with the pipes, and are a bit reluctant as we don't know what would happen.." His voice faded off, once more thinking of the woman who seemed to have been summoned by when he had sung it by the loch.

Sansa looked at him impressed. "You wrote that? It's really quite beautiful.... Wait!" She registered what he and said and frowned. "What do you mean you don't know what would happen?" she asked quizically. "It's a song, a beautiful one at that. What's the worse that could happen?"

Hamish looked down at his glass which was half full, then downed it in one gulp before answering, not daring to look up at Sansa, his hand trembling and his voice quavering. "Well... last time I sang that song, many years ago. S-s-something happened." he gulped, trying to stave off the emotions that were welling up inside. I had gone to the loch to see the stars reflecting in the water and was communing with nature, and watch the wildlife that only came out at night." he stopped and looked for the bottle of brandy then abruptly rose up from the sofa and got a bottle of his own, pouring a full glass. His back to Sansa, and took a decent drink of the liquor he poured.

Sansa looked at him concerned, she stood and moved closer to him and put her hand on his shoulder, trying to calm him. "It's ok. You're safe. Go on...."

"When I came to the end of that song, there was a bright flash in the sky, which lit everything like that of the noonday sun then it disappeared. I was momentarily blinded by the light, then when things settled down, I saw a woman who was walking upon the water, such an ethereal beauty, her hair was of flaxen gold, which glowed, I thought it was the lady of the lake coming to pay me a visit." Hamish took another drink then slowly turned around to look at Sansa as he continued his tale. "Her hand reached out towards me and I took her hand feeling a surge of energy course through me as I helped her to the shore. She was standing on the remnants of a boar, I do not know what kept her there but she had managed to float to the shore." He looked towards the stars he could see.

"Her name was Esme Rose, she had eyes of the brightest emerald green. We spent time together, wandering about the wilderness, then into town. Two weeks had passed by, I was in love with her. Then I noticed something about her, as if Esme were in some way diminishing in her energy. I was worried about her and tried her to see a doctor. Then I found out who she truly was. Another being from out there, somewhat like Fay but different, and her being hosted in Abigale's body. However, the host body wasn't the proper fit and was dying. Esme confessed to me that she wasn't from Earth, and that...she had to leave, and she didn't want to hurt the host body either. Esme didn't know she was hurting her host until that moment. She pleaded with me to help her find her ship, so that she could return to her people. We went to go find it but there was no trace of it, and her host body was.. was... growing weaker."

He went to the sofa sitting down and holding his head in his hands looking down towards the floor and began to sob, he choked out..."Sansa... she couldn't allow the host body to die and she used the last bit of her energy to make sure the host body would heal. Then... then the light from those emerald green eyes.. faded away, and I knew she was gone. When the host body regained consciousness, I saw only the hazel eyes, who looked at me with confusion. No trace of what was Esme Rose there. I found out that the woman's name was Rose, and even though I was interested in getting to know the true Rose... it didn't work out. Rose wasn't interested in me. There was nothing I could do to save Esme... Nothing." his sobs went quiet, his chest heaving as Hamish stuffed down the sobs.

Sansa had been standing listening to Hamish's story in wonder. As he now broke down into tears, she now came back to sit by him, putting an arm around his shoulder, hoping to bring him some comfort. "She sounds wonderful. You must have really cared for her." She frowned for a moment "Esme..." she whispered to herself, somehow it evoked a familiar feeling in the back of her mind. "I've heard that name before... There's something familiar about it. Not my memories... Fay's." She looked at him astonished "When Fay was in me I could see her some of her memories and there was that name somewhere hidden at the back of her thoughts... Esme. You don't think..." She stopped trying to put the pieces together. "Fay and Tan always said I was the first to share one of their consciousnesses..."

"I loved her, Sansa it was awful seeing her die in my arms." he did take comfort with Sansa's arm around his shoulder. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to break down like that." puling out a handkerchief and wiping his eyes with it. "You are the only one besides Mathias, that I've told this to." Hamish said.

Sansa could read the emotion in his voice. "I can tell you loved her deeply. Maybe we should ask Fay if the name is familiar to her." She then shifted, wanting to bring up the proverbial elephant in the room. "Errm, we should probably talk about the other night in The Round table, you know after the singing..." She brushed her long hair from her face and took another sip of her drink.

Hamish almost gave himself whiplash when he turned his head towards Sansa. "Er yes, the.... the kiss. I didn't mean to offend you." he gulped, "And I hope your mother wasn't angry with me, I got caught up in the moment." he grimaced slightly, looking away.

Sansa chuckled. "Hey, of course, you didn't embarrass me and it was..... rather nice...." She admitted as she moved closer to him. "But you did leave at warp speed afterwards."

"Well, yes I did. I didn't know quite what to do so.. I left." realizing that she was moving closer to him. "You thought my kiss was rather nice? I did like your kiss as well, it was.. potent." then his eyebrows raised, "Okay, oh my goodness, how was Mathias able to resist that sort of kiss um and with Fay being in you..." Hamish responded, he certainly wanted to kiss her again but... should he or shouldn't he. "I do not know what to do here. I..."

Sansa cut him off by kissing him first, tenderly yet passionately. After what seemed like a blissful eternity, she pulled back slightly and looked at him. "You're certainly a complicated one, Hamish Teague." She said as she caressed his face. "To answer your question, Mathias was and still is in a relationship with Caroline and he didn't want to jeopardize that and at the time, I was also in a relationship. Technically, so was Fay but she seemed more... liberal with wanting to explore human physical interactions". she said suggestively raising her eyebrows.

Hamish was barely recovering from that powerful kiss, and his arms wrapped around Sansa. "My lady, you are quite the woman. I do need to be honest with you though, and please don't be angry with Mathias he... set me straight on a few matters." one hand caressing her silken hair. "I do know that you came out of a relationship with Hayley. And even though I am a bit of a cad, I am not the sort to take advantage of your vulnerability. I've been through that myself, being used as a rebound man, as in someone took advantage of me, with my being vulnerable." Hamish released Sansa from his arms, but she could hear his heart pounding in his chest. "I do find you rather appealing, and desirable."

Sansa continued to caress his face and raised an eyebrow. "I bet you got that silver tongue kissing the stone, didn't you?" she kissed him once more. "I understand what you're saying but I've moved on from Hayley. I must admit when I first met you I would never have imagined this happening. I would never have assumed you were a Cad though. An arrogant, self-absorbed ass... Maybe." she added with a smile. "Tell you what, how about dinner tomorrow night? You can tell me more about you.

Hamish pulled Sansa in for one more kiss before he answered her, marveling at the sweet taste of her lips, and the feeling of them against his. "I best be careful of your kisses." he said with a low chuckle. "Dinner would be wonderful." looking into her eyes. "Sansa, I do apologize for being like I was earlier, for the way I treated you."

"Well, I'm sure you had a reason. And I'm sorry I got all high and mighty on you. You can tell me all about it tomorrow at dinner, Say 1900 hours in the main lounge?"

Hamish made himself let Sansa go from his embrace, she felt wonderful in his arms, however, he still had the vestiges of being a gentleman inside him. And he wasn't a cad either. "That sounds perfect Sansa. I look forward to that."

"Well, it's getting late, I better be getting back to my cabin. I'll see you tomorrow morning, Fay said she was going to introduce us properly to our whale friends. Goodnight." and with one last kiss, she picked up her bottle of Aldebaran whisky and headed back to her quarters.

Hamish's lips were still tingling after this last kiss of Sansa's and when she left he was still gazing towards the door, for a few, then he blinked. "Hamish what are you doing? It's the captain's daughter, a veritable force of nature. And so lovely, and... beautiful."

As she entered her cabin, she placed the bottle on the table. Then unzipping her top and stepping out of her skirt, she collapsed naked on the bed and sighed as she drifted off to a wonderful sleep, looking forward to what tomorrow would bring.

For an hour or so, Hamish had difficult time to sleep, the memory of Sansa's kisses dancing through his head, finally he fell asleep, smiling.
