A pregnant possibility

Melody had asked Caroline to meet her in sickbay. Doctor Ki had been called back to Starfleet Medical urgently and Melody needed someone with experience to run things here until a new doctor could be found. Also, she wanted to talk to her about the other thing....

"Caroline, thank you for coming," Melody said as Caroline entered sickbay.

"No problem. What can I help you with?" she asked.

“I’m afraid that Doctor Ki has been called back to Starfleet medical on an important assignment. He left via shuttle to rendezvous with the USS Hood. I’d like you to takeover in sickbay until a new CMO is appointed.” Melody said as she led Caroline into the CMO’s office. “I need someone with talent and experience so I’ve come to you.”

"Wow," Caroline said. She needed to sit down on her desk. "So basically your telling me my new boyfriend just abandoned me. He didn't even tell me he was leaving. No goodbye or anything, and now you need me to cover his job for a while?"

Melody nodded. “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. Starfleet medical were very insistent and the orders came from above so there was not much I could do I’m afraid.” She put her hand on Caroline’s shoulder “I know I’m asking a lot but I also know that I can count on you, just as I’m here for you too.” She added supportively.

"I know," she said quietly. "I just feel such an idiot. I let my guard down, let him get close and it's not the best idea dating someone you work with is it? But I fell for him anyway. And nothing. Just no explanation. I deserved better than that." She fought to hold back some tears. "I won't let you down Mel."

"Hey, Hey..." Melody put the ranks aside for a moment and embraced Caroline "I know you won't. Unfortunately, we don't always get what we deserve but, I know you can rise above this. You're stronger than you give yourself credit. When we open ourselves up there is always the possibility of pain. I'm sure you'll find that someone out there for you. It's a big galaxy."

Caroline nodded and squared her shoulders. "Indeed. Okay while I have you here. Starfleet medical got in touch with me. With a treatment. To help you get pregnant."

Melody's hands flew to her mouth and she was speechless for a moment. When she finally found her voice she replied, still quite shocked "Really??!!! Wow, I wasn't expecting anything so soon. Wow! I mean, how do we proceed? What's involved?"

"I take a hypo spray of a synthesised solution and press it to your neck weekly," Caroline said.

"A series of injections?" Melody asked, then looked a Caroline with determination "Let's give it a shot."

"No pun intended I assume," Caroline chuckled despite herself. "Okay here we go. Administering first injection."

Melody felt the hiss of the hypospray. She took a deep breath. She didn't feel any different. "Well, Can't expect results straight away." She said sounding slightly disappointed. " Still, I'll see you next week for the next injection."

"Mel ....." Caroline called after her. "Do come back to me if there are any side effects won't you? This is still somewhat experimental."


Melody nodded and With that, She headed out of sickbay. There was a short walk to the turbolift which she boarded. She stood waiting for the lift to reach the deck with her quarters when suddenly it felt as if the tubolift dropped at high speed. She had to put a hand on the wall to steady herself as her heart began to race and her temperature rose slightly. Her breathing also became faster and shallower. "Woah!!!! what a rush," She said to herself as suddenly she had one purpose, one goal in her mind. She knew what she had to do and who she needed to do it with. While her pupils had dilated, she narrowed her eyes. The doors opened and she shot out of the tubolift on a mission. Like a shark which could smell blood in the water...
