New beginnings

She packed her last PADD in her bag and looked around at the now baron quarters in the space dock that she had been assigned before her new assignment being confirmed. Caroline was used to moving around. Growing up when her father had officially joined Starfleet it had been the norm. She also knew how to pack light.

The chime to her quarters went.

“Come in,” Caroline said.

“I thought I would come see you off,” her colleague and friend from Med school said. It had been nice to find her working on the station and reconnect for a few days before moving on to the new assignment.

“Thank you,” she smiled at Jess.

“You all sorted?” the other doctor asked.

Caroline moved to show only the regulation furniture in the room. “Ops already got them to beam everything else to the ship. She’s been docked here for a while.”

“You ready?”

Caroline nodded. She was looking forward to the new commission. New people and new adventures.

They walked out and to the nearest turbo lift.

“Thanks for putting in some shifts and helping me out over the last couple of weeks,” Jess said.

“Deck 18,”Caroline ordered and turned back to her friend, “No problem. I was in-between things any way and it was nice to work together again. You seem to have got your practice ship shape now,” she smiled at her friend.

“Yeah, you get that to do with your new sickbay, and then try get all the officers to come have a physical with you. You know how much they like to be ordered to do that!” they both laughed.

The turbo lift deposited them on deck 18, the nearest transporter area.

Caroline nodded at the chief upon entering. She popped her bag down and hugged her friend then said seriously. “Let’s do a better job of staying in touch this time,”

“You got it. And you watch your six,” Jess replied.

She nodded picked the bag up again and went and stood on the transporter pad. “USS Merlin please,”
